Pool projects for the village of Walworth, at the southwest corner of Geneva Lake - a mix of village lots and lake-adjacent parcels, each with a different process.

The village of Walworth sits at the southwest end of Geneva Lake, close enough to the water to share the market and far enough back that a good share of its housing stock sits on ordinary village lots rather than shoreline parcels. That split is the useful thing to understand about building here.

For village properties away from the water, a pool is a conventional project: municipal permit, ordinary setbacks, and the usual questions about access down the side of the house and where a large volume of excavated material goes. Lots here are often more workable than the steep shoreline ground a couple of miles away.

For parcels that do reach the lake, or that fall inside the shoreland zone without touching it, the county rules apply in full. Swimming pools are excluded from the shore yard, which the ordinance measures as 75 feet back from the ordinary high water mark. A permit is required for any land disturbance inside the 1,000-foot shoreland band. And the vegetation buffer limits what may be cleared near the water. Whether a given address falls inside that zone is not something to guess at.

Because Walworth mixes both, the first useful step is establishing which kind of project you actually have. It changes the timeline more than it changes the pool.
